Industrial Water Filtration with Ultrafiltration Systems

Ultrafiltration systems that remove bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms from water for safe, healthy water.

Ultrafiltrasyon Sistemleri

Ultrafiltration systems are pressure-driven membrane systems that separate microorganisms, colloidal substances and high-molecular-weight particles from water. Especially in industrial facilities, ahead of reverse osmosis or for direct process water supply, they offer high-efficiency and economical solutions.

At aquaDESTECH we design UF systems for different sectors, integrate them with automation and lower your operating costs through energy efficiency.

How Ultrafiltration Systems Work

Ultrafiltration works by passing pressurised water through membranes with a pore size below 0.01 micron. In this process:

  • Bacteria, viruses and organic molecules are retained
  • The water is clarified, except for dissolved salts
  • Reverse osmosis and other advanced membrane systems get ideal pre-treatment

UF membranes save energy because they operate at low pressure. They also keep chemical consumption to a minimum.

Applications of UF Systems

Ultrafiltration systems are actively used in the following sectors:

  • Food and beverage: treatment of milk, fruit juice and process water
  • Chemical and pharmaceutical industry: production of high-purity water
  • Power plants: boiler feed water preparation
  • Municipalities: drinking water or grey water recovery
  • Reverse osmosis pre-treatment: the ideal preliminary step to prevent fouling

In addition, applying UF after biological treatment such as activated sludge systems improves effluent quality and makes the water suitable for reuse.

The Difference Between Ultrafiltration and Reverse Osmosis

Both systems are based on membrane technology, but they differ functionally:

Feature

Ultrafiltration (UF)

Reverse Osmosis (RO)

Pore Size

~0.01 µm

~0.0001 µm

What Does It Remove?

Bacteria, colloids, macromolecules

Ions, salts, small organics

Pressure Requirement

Low (1–4 bar)

High (6–15 bar)

Chemical Consumption

Low

Medium

UF systems are usually preferred as pre-treatment ahead of RO. This extends the life of the RO membranes and reduces energy and maintenance costs.
